To reduce packaging waste, the Council of the EU formally adopted the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which relates to all forms of packaging and/or material used and whether it is produced by industry or households and is set to apply 18 months after the date of its entry into force.
PPWR applies to all players of the supply chain, and is legally binding to packaging importers, packaging importers, producers, intermediary and final distributors, as well as providers of the logistic industry but also logistics service providers. PPWR aims at reducing packaging waste generated per capita by 5% by 2030, 10% by 2035 and 15% by 2040.
PPWR aims at recycling at least 65% of the weight of all packaging waste by the end of 2025 and at least 70% by the end of 2030.
